Ceasefire Broken: Pakistan Sends Drones to Attack Srinagar and Border Cities Just Hours After Peace Deal
In a shocking turn of events, Pakistan violated the freshly announced ceasefire with India by launching drone attacks and artillery shelling across multiple regions in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan. Just hours after both India and Pakistan announced a long-awaited ceasefire agreement, the fragile peace was shattered as Pakistan reportedly launched drone attacks and opened fire across multiple sensitive regions, plunging parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan into fear and confusion.
The first signs of the ceasefire breach emerged from Srinagar, where multiple loud explosions were heard, prompting authorities to enforce an immediate red alert and blackout. The panic was visible on the streets, with civilians rushing indoors amid fears of further escalation. As per sources, air defence units were activated to respond swiftly to any aerial threats.
In Baramulla, a drone was successfully shot down, and sightings of suspicious unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) led to heightened surveillance. The blackout in Baramulla mirrored the one in Srinagar, reinforcing the urgency of the situation.
The attacks weren’t limited to Kashmir. Rajasthan’s Pokhran region also witnessed drone activity, where another UAV was reportedly taken down by Indian forces. Meanwhile, in Jammu and Kashmir’s Akhnoor, RS Pura, and Rajouri sectors, artillery shelling by Pakistan’s military intensified tensions further along the International Border and Line of Control (LoC).
Over in Punjab, drone movements were detected in Pathankot, Ferozpur, Gurudaspur, Hoshiarpur, Faridkot, and Jalandhar. Authorities in Jalandhar and Ludhiana didn’t take any chances, immediately urging citizens to remain indoors and participate in voluntary blackouts to reduce visibility during potential aerial attacks. The Jalandhar administration issued a public advisory, emphasizing the importance of public safety and cooperation amid the unfolding crisis.
Even the sacred region of Katra, known as the base camp for pilgrims visiting the Mata Vaishno Devi temple, wasn’t spared. Reports of aerial movement triggered precautionary measures, with power cuts and surveillance ramping up as a protective measure for the thousands of devotees in the area.
Understandably, political reactions followed quickly. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah voiced his frustration on social media, tweeting, “What the hell just happened to the ceasefire? Explosions heard across Srinagar!!!”
He later added, “This is no ceasefire. The air defence units in the middle of Srinagar just opened up,”
accompanied by a video clip of the drone attack that captured the tense atmosphere on the ground.
The Chief Minister’s remarks reflect the sentiment of many across the region who feel betrayed by the sudden and violent breach of trust, especially considering that Pakistan itself had proposed the ceasefire talks just a day before. While both governments had made official announcements about the truce, this unprovoked aggression has raised serious questions about Pakistan’s intentions and sincerity.
In response, the Border Security Force (BSF) has been put on high alert and instructed to respond with full force to any further ceasefire violations. Military sources stated that India will not tolerate such breaches and will take all necessary actions to protect its citizens and territorial integrity.
The timing of the attack—so soon after a peace agreement—has baffled many analysts and officials. While the ceasefire had offered a glimmer of hope for reducing tensions in the border regions, Saturday’s sudden escalation has cast a long shadow over future diplomatic efforts.
As things stand, residents in affected areas remain under strict advisories, with blackouts continuing overnight and security forces on full deployment. The Ministry of Defence has yet to issue a detailed statement, but internal briefings suggest that India is reviewing all strategic options moving forward.
