Ajay Devgn’s latest courtroom-meets-political thriller, Raid 2, is off to a roaring start at the Indian box office. After opening strong on May 1, the film has steadily maintained its grip, with growing footfalls by the weekend. The third-day numbers are in—and they’re impressive.
According to early estimates reported by Sacnilk.com, Raid 2 raked in ₹16.05 crore on Saturday alone, showing a clear upward trend after a minor dip on Day 2. This brings the film’s total domestic earnings to ₹47.3 crore in just three days—a solid performance for a sequel.
The movie opened with a bang on Thursday, pulling in ₹19.25 crore, which surprisingly surpassed the opening numbers of Devgn’s 2022 hit Drishyam 2 (₹15.38 crore). While Friday saw a slightly lower collection of ₹12 crore, the rebound on Saturday indicates strong word-of-mouth and growing interest.
Occupancy rates also tell the story. On Saturday, Hindi shows recorded a total occupancy of 23.94%. Morning screenings started slow at 12.04%, but by the evening, theatres were buzzing, hitting a solid 33.15% occupancy—showing that viewers are catching up with the film over the weekend.
Raid 2 brings back Ajay Devgn as the relentless IRS officer Amay Patnaik, taking on a new nemesis played by Riteish Deshmukh—a corrupt political figure. Vaani Kapoor steps into a key role, while Saurabh Shukla returns for a special appearance, adding a touch of continuity from the 2018 original. Directed by Rajkumar Gupta, the film stays rooted in the 1990s and weaves in a mix of suspense, politics, and gritty action.
Critics have given the film a mixed yet watchable verdict. The Hindustan Times notes that the first half is filled with twists that keep viewers on edge, but the film leans a bit too much on convenience when it comes to plot turns. While Ajay’s hero finds help a little too easily, this occasionally undermines Riteish’s character arc as the formidable “Dada Bhai”.
Still, audiences seem invested. With Sunday collections yet to come, Raid 2 could easily cross the ₹60 crore mark before the weekend ends. For fans of high-stakes thrillers and Ajay’s intense screen presence, this one’s definitely worth a watch.
